Concern over possible TB infection of kindergarten children

Parents of preschoolers in Mazkeret Batya received notice on Monday regarding a concern that the children may have been exposed to the bacteria that can cause tuberculosis. It is estimated that one of the teaching had fallen ill with tuberculosis.

The explanation sheet sent to the children's parents was signed by Sharona Peleg, the regional supervising nurse and Hannah Lavie, an epidemiology nurse from the Rehovot Health Department. The letter said that "based on the results of an epidemiological investigation, the kindergarten children and staff had been exposed to the bacteria that can cause tuberculosis." The parents were summoned on Tuesday to receive an explanation detailing the post-exposure process. It remains unclear who was patient zero was.

"All parents are hysterical," said one of the fathers, "We received the letter, no one knows what is going to happen, except that this is a stressful disease. We are scared and hope that nobody was infected." Meanwhile, parents were instructed to report alongside the children on Tuesday, where initial tests to diagnose the disease will probably be performed.
