Report: Russia has deployed special forces to Egypt to assist the Libyan army

American and Egyptian officials, together with other diplomats, reported that in recent days, Russia has deployed special forces to an air force base in western Egypt, near the border with Libya.

According to the report, they forces may be deployed to support the military operation in Libya under the command of Gen. Khalifa Haftr, who was defeated in an attack on oil fields under his control by rebels.

The Egyptian army denied the reports, while the Russian Defense Ministry gave no response.
