Meretz Convention rejects Galon's proposal to hold open primaries
The Meretz Party Convention voted Tuesday to reject a proposal by party leader MK Zehava Galon to move up the leadership primaries by nearly two years and hold open primaries.
"The Meretz Convention's vote is the victory of politicos and the detachment from the public," Galon said, claiming that if the party remains "a closed member's club," it would not survive.
Even before the decision was made, MK Ilan Gilon announced his intention to run against Galon for the party's leadership.
