Levinstein warned of Ministry of Defense sanctions

Minister of Defense Avigdor Lieberman doubles down on his demands for Rabbi Yigal Levinstein to step down by detailing a list of sanctions to be imposed upon Levinstein and his institutions unless the embattled rabbi steps down.

Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Maj. Gen. (res.) Udi Adam, issued a letter of summons to Rabbi Yigal Levinstein, head of the Bnei David military preparatory yeshiva.

In the letter, Adam informed both Levinstein and Rabbi Eli Sadan that Minister of Defense Avigdor Lieberman (Yisrael Beytenu) intends to remove Bnei David from the ministry's list of recognized military preparatory yeshivas unless Levinstein ceases all activities as a rabbi and educator.

Adam went on to admonish Levinstein, saying, "Rabbi Levinstein's harsh and repeated slander against women and others serving in the IDF severely harms the IDF, its values, the population it serves and the State of Israel."

The Bnei David yeshiva issued a response to Adam's letter, saying, "As those who educate their students on the importance of freedom of expression, we will not cooperate with any attempt to harm the freedom of expression of our rabbis, teachers or alumni."
