National Emergency Authority head warns of severe damage possible from earthquake

According to the head of the National Emergency Authority at the Ministry of Defense, Bezalel Traiber, Israel is woefully unprepared for an earthquake. "In a minute and a half, there may be no less than 7,000 dead and no less than 60 destroyed apartment buildings. Up to half a million people will be without a home, and as of now, there are 80,000 buildings in Israel that are not reinforced to withstand an earthquake."
