Palestinian suspects' remand to be shortened

The state has informed the High Court of Justice that arrest times of Palestinian suspects in the West Bank will be shortened.

Following a petition by the Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs (CDA) and the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit announced a substantial decrease in remand time for Palestinian suspects.

It is now ruled that Palestinians under the age of 14 who are not suspected of security related felonies can only be held for up to 12 hours. Likewise, the remand of Palestinians suspected of non- security related felonies who are of age will also be shortened.

In addition, Palestinians can now only be held in detention (until legal proceedings are finished) for up to 90 days, while underage Palestinians can only be held for up to 45 days.
