Bennett laments missed settlement opportunity

In a series of tweets and replies to himself, the education minister writes that Netanyahu is returning ‘the same old frustrating two-state solution.’

Bayit Yehudi leader and Education Minister Naftali Bennett discussed the state’s construction policy in the West Bank on his Twitter account on Sunday afternoon.

In a series of tweets replying to himself, Bennett began, “The new policy is balanced and reasonable, provided that it is actually implemented. There is no quantitative limit. In my experience, we’ll have to make sure it’s implemented.”

Bennett sought to clarify the position of his party in the government, noting, “There is a missed strategic opportunity here. Instead of presenting an alternative (sovereignty in Area C, autonomy, etc.), we were passive, and so we returned to the same old frustrating two-state solution. I can’t complain, since this is Netanyahu’s declared policy (two states).”

The minister continued to laud his own party. Bennett also wrote again that the policy towards the region of US President Donald Trump was not the subject to be dealt with.

“The story is not President Trump, but the position of the Israeli government, because we did not place a determined Israeli initiative on the table, two states filled the vacuum,” he wrote. “We missed an historic opportunity.”

Likud issued a response to Bennett's remarks: "It is amusing to read Bennett's tweets on Prime Minister Netanyahu, who acts with determination, wisdom and responsibility for the security of Israel and for settlements.”
