Knesset approves IPBC delayed launch

The Knesset plenum approves in second and third reading the amendment to the IPBC law, delaying its launch by two weeks to May 15.

The Knesset voted on Wednesday to push back the launch of the new Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation (IPBC) to May 15, instead of at the end of April.

The vote passed with 35 MKs supporting the decision versus 28 MKs against it.

The opposition came out against the delay, with the IPBC workers themselves decrying that it would be "a waste of NIS 17 million and all the creative content intended for Memorial Day and Independence Day."
"Delaying the launch by two weeks is a dirty tactic aimed to delay a mass layoff until the day after the elections for the head of the Histadrut Labor Federation," said member of the opposition MK Shelly Yachimovich (Zionist Union).
