Circumcision held for terror victim's son at scene of attack

Family of Abraham Asher Hasno, who was murdered in a vehicular attack in October 2015, returned to Fuer Junction near Hebron to welcome grandson Netzah Asher Yaakov to the Jewish nation.

The family of Abraham Asher Hasno decided to hold his grandson's traditional Jewish circumcision ceremony on Wednesday at the Fuer junction near Hebron, where Hasno was murdered in a vehicular attack in October 2015.

 

 

Hasno's daughter Natalie Shmuel said "there was no question" among family members where theceremony of baby Netzah Asher Yaakov should take place.

 

The family had to coordinate with IDF forces to be able to hold the ceremony at the junction.

"I feel both happiness and sadness, it's all mixed up," she said.

 

"This is where my father lost his life in a heinous murder just because he was a Jew, and this is where I chose to have my son to receive his Jewish identity," Natalie added. "I felt like my father was here with me."

The family, along with the residents of Kiryat Arba, also marked Hasno's 57th birthday on Wednesday by releasing 57 balloons into the air in his memory.

 

Similar to her daughter, Ruth Hasno, Abraham's widow, described the moving event as bringng "both great happiness and a great feeling of loss."

 

"I know and feel that Abraham is here with me," Ruth said. "This is exactly how he would have liked his grandson's circumcision to look like. Abraham is here, he hasn't gone anywhere. We need to keep choosing life."

The Kiryat Araba's council leader, Malachi Levinger, also attended the ceremony. "This was an emotional event, there wasn't a dry eye among us. We will continue rising, continue building in our ancestors' city (Hebron) and in all of Judea and Samaria."

 

Hasno was murdered on his way home to Kiryat Araba from the settlement Otniel. When he arrived at the Fuer junction, his car came under a barrage of stones. He stopped his car and exited it. It was then that a truck driver who was also at the junction ran him over and killed him.

The driver was initially accused of manslaughter, but after the family appealed the charges, they were changed to murder. The family also fought to be recognized by the Defense Ministry as victims of terror.
