IDF Manpower Directorate head concerned about incitement against Haredi troops

Stepping down from his position as IDF Spokesperson, head of the IDF Manpower Directorate Moti Almoz says that he is 'unaffected' by the threats from the ultra-orthodox protestors he called 'an extreme minority.'

In an interview with Ynet Monday, head of the IDF Manpower Directorate, Moti Almoz, said that the incitement and threats against him do not change a thing and have no effect on him, saying he is more worried about the incitement against Haredi soldiers.

On Friday, several ultra-orthodox members of the Jerusalem Faction arrived at Almoz's home, carrying signs reading, "Your end will be sour as that of Hitler and his compatriots," and "G-d will avenge the sons and daughters of Israel whose souls were burned in the persecution army by the merchant of souls, head of the Manpower Directorate Moti Almoz."

"It feels like they think it will be easier to come to my home and maybe threaten me or say inappropriate things and maybe it will change something or make a difference. They could just as easily come to the recruiting office for a few minutes and sign exemption papers," said Almoz.

Were you surprised by them coming to harass you?

"No. I knew that in their mind, this struggle has no defined lines; they can do whatever they believe is necessary. I'm more worried about what's going on with our troops, which I think is much more severe.

"We need to divert most of our attention to them because the fact that Haredi soldiers can't get home in peace because someone along their way harasses them or acts violently towards them is very serious and we're trying to take care of it."

Almoz officially stepped down from his position as IDF Spokesperson last week and was replaced with Brig. Gen. Ronen Manelis. "There are more than a few cases where I may have been wrong," summarized Almoz, "but I think we handled the whole Elor Azaria affair correctly."

Will you miss this job?

"I will miss the people, very much so. They are very dear to me."
