After Justice Minister halts Supreme Court selection, incumbent president threatens High Court appeal

Supreme Court President Miriam Naor sent a strongly worded letter to Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked after the minister refused to officially announce Esther Hayut as the new President of the Supreme Court.

Naor hinted in her letter that if Shaked decides to postpone the selection committee, she may file an appeal against her in the High Court of Justice." Shaked must use her authority to decide on the agenda only with a true and practical reason," wrote Naor.

The interim president then pondered on Shaked decision to postpone the meeting of the committee, writing that "it seems as if the only reason to postpone the selection committee is because we (Naor and Shaked) did not reach an agreement on the identities of two additional judges who will join Hayut and replace (Yoram) Danziger and (Uri) Shoham (who have recently retired)."
