Lebanese army commander: 'Israel unlikely to open war against us'

The Lebanese army commander, Joseph Aoun, said that "an Israeli war against Lebanon will not take place and is highly unlikely, unless there is some error in calculations." This was reported in Asharq Al-awsat, according to sources close to Aoun. According to the report, he added that the information coming from outside on the issue is very reassuring and stresses that "Lebanon is immune to an internal security shock and protected from any external war that Israel may launch against it."

It was also reported that Aoun said that during his visit to the United States after taking office, he felt "great interest from American officials in the security of Lebanon, its stability and its immunity from any internal danger, infiltration from the border with Syria or confrontation with Israel."
