Following ultra-Orthodox pressure: train infrastructure work canceled on Saturday

In a meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz, Labor and Social Affairs Minister Haim Katz and heads of the ultra-Orthodox parties, it was agreed that the status quo on Shabat observance would be preserved. As a result, it was decided that the railway work in the south of the country, planned for Saturday, will be canceled.

In addition, the Minister of Transportation instructed not to perform work on Saturday, but the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs said that every week, every request for a Saturday work permit would be examined in order to prevent unnecessary work.
