Deri asks for another hearing on the opening of supermarkets in Tel Aviv on Shabbat
Interior Minister Aryeh Deri filed a request for another hearing in the High Court of Justice regarding the opening of supermarkets in Tel Aviv on Saturday, after Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit refused to submit a request on behalf of the state.
Deri said that "in view of the honor of Shabbat and against the background of the importance of halachah, there are grounds for holding another hearing."
Two months ago, the High Court of Justice rejected a petition that sought to prohibit the Tel Aviv municipality from approving 164 supermarkets and recreation areas on Shabbat, and ruled that there was no cause for intervention.
The High Court did not object to the hearing.
