Haredi MKs call to 'stop public transportation on Shabbat'

Ultra-Orthodox MKs from Shas and United Torah Judaism parties sent a letter to the director-general of the Ministry of Transport Keren Turner on Monday evening asking to revoke permits for public transportation on Shabbat in cities where municipalities allow such activity.

In a letter signed by MKs Michael Malkieli and Yoav Ben-Tzur of Shas and MKs Uri Maklev and Yisrael Eichler of United Torah Judaism, they relate to the lines that operate on Shabbat, including in Holon, Ramat Hasharon and Herzliya. "Amendment 28 to the Traffic Ordinance enables the Minister of Transportation to save the honor of Shabbat Desecration of the public Sabbath," the MKs wrote.
