Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said that "the government of Israel and the petitioners decided to appeal to the court to postpone the decision on the conversion issue in order to provide a half-year period for a team to be appointed by the prime minister to formulate recommendations for a settlement on this issue."
In addition, it was written that "the Prime Minister instructed that legislative proceedings on the matter should not be advanced until such recommendations are received. As long as the High Court rejects the request, the government is obligated to act according to the coalition agreements."
