Danielle Layman

Israeli woman arrested in US for plotting hit on her husband

The woman, identified as Danielle Layman, utilizes a Craigslist ad for a production job overseas to hire a woman to fly to Israel and murder her ex-husband with ricin poison; Layman and her husband are currently involved in a custody battle over their daughter.

A 37-year-old Israeli woman named Danielle Layman was arrested by the FBI on suspicion of attempting to hire an assassin to murder her ex-husband—a Tel Aviv taxi driver—by using homemade ricin, according to media reports from the United States.

In an interview with Ynet, the target of the murder-for-hire plot said, "Police told me there was a real threat on my life; I was shocked."

According to the man, he was not initially informed of his ex-wife's arrest and was called to a local police station several weeks ago where officers told him to maintain a low profile as there was a threat to his life.

"They called me to the police station and they didn't really know what to say to me," said the man. "They said I was in danger, but that they didn't know from whom exactly. They even told me to check my car before driving. I didn't understand what they were talking about. I'm a clean person and I'm not involved in any criminal activity."

According to court documents from the United States, Layman and her ex-husband are currently engaged in a bitter custody dispute over their daughter.

The would-be victim was interviewed by police Tuesday and informed of the updates in the case. He also provided police with an account of his relationship with his ex-wife and their custody battle, which will be made available to American law enforcement officials.

According to Fox 25 news, the investigation into Layman began on May 9th after the FBI received a tip from a woman named Tinsley Keefe, who claims that Layman attempted to convince her to travel to Tel Aviv and murder the victim.

According to the report, Keefe responded to a Craigslist ad seeking someone to work on a production abroad. The ad also promised competitive pay, while demanding strict discretion.

The report then went on to reference court documents detailing a meeting between Keefe and Layman in which the latter explained the poisoning plot and even claimed that if Keefe divulges the plan, they would both be murdered.

Layman then proceeded to conduct a power point presentation for Keefe on carrying out the hit in Israel. She was to pose as a tourist and contact the taxi driver by phone before ultimately slipping him coffee laced with the poison. Keefe was to repeat this process over the course of several days while paying attention to the victim's health.

"When your target is hospitalized or killed, move to a different hotel or hostel until your flight home," Layman told Keefe. Layman then instructed Keefe how to handle the ricin safely and how to bring it into Israel.

For the murder, Keefe was to be paid $4,000. However, after her meeting with Layman, Keefe contacted a lawyer who advised her to contact the FBI.

Following the tip, FBI agents and other law enforcement agencies conducted a search warrant of Layman's home in Oklahoma, where they discovered materials and instructions used to make the poison. Shortly thereafter, Layman was arrested.
