The interrogation of the soldier from the 401th Brigade who fired at the beginning of the week at his commander's vehicle revealed the soldier—who is forbidden from bearing arms due to mental heath issues—received the rifle from his friend.
The soldier is set to remain in custody in a psychiatric institution.
The soldier's lawyer said that the army has failed him, claiming that his aunt "warned the IDF of deterioration in his mental condition."
There were no casualties in the incident, but the details of the investigation indicate that the soldier fired at least 22 rounds from an M-16 he was holding, hitting his commander's nearby vehicle. The commander's vehicle has been suspended since the incident and the estimated damage to it is NIS 8,100.
The investigation of the incident has so far painted a disturbing picture. In addition to the soldier receiving the rifle rifle from another soldier at the base, it was revealed that the soldier who fired the rifle has been treated by the mental health authorities in recent weeks.
According to the soldier's relatives, they urged his commanders to take care of him. They also submitted their concerns to the Ombudsman. The medical Corps and his unit are now examining the way it was treated. His lawyer, Yael Tachnani, said that he had met with a security officer last week, but that there was no improvement in his condition.
