Soldier hit by friendly fire during arrest operation

Special forces soldier moderately wounded after being shot in leg and back during arrest operation in Palestinian refugee camp when two terror suspects attempt to flee before being neutralized; soldier and terrorists evacuated to hospital in Jerusalem.

An IDF soldier was moderately injured early Wednesday morning from friendly fire during a military arrest operation in the Dheisheh Palestinian refugee camp, located south of Bethlehem in the West Bank.

 

 

At around 4:30am local time, soldiers from the elite special operations force Duvdevan Unit surrounded two structures in the camp in order to arrest two Palestinian terror operatives who were hiding there.

 

The two began to flee the buildings, prompting the soldiers to open fire on them as part of the procedure for apprehending a terror suspect. One of the suspects was seriously wounded in the incident, while the other was moderately wounded. They were treated at the scene by the soldiers and evacuated for further treatment to a Jerusalem hospital.

During the shooting, one of the soldiers from the unit was accidentally shot in his leg and back, and was also evacuated to the same hospital in Jerusalem in moderate condition.

 

During the night, IDF forces, the Shin Bet, the Border Police and the Israel Police arrested 25 wanted persons in the West Bank. Twenty-two of them are suspected of involvement in terror activities and of violent disturbances against civilians and security forces.

 

Also, as part of an operation in the village of Qubar, from which hailed the terrorist who carried out the deadly stabbing attack in Halamish, IDF forces from the Binyamin Brigade and the Israel Police arrested the father and brother of the terrorist. The two were transferred to the security forces for questioning.

 

In addition, during searches in the village of Sa'ir in the Hebron Governorate in the southern West Bank, security forces seized several homemade Carlo submachine guns.
