Trump hands communications reins to longtime confidante
Three people tackled the assignment with limited success, but the job of keeping President Donald Trump on message now falls to longtime Trump aide Hope Hicks.
The 28-year-old former public relations aide and political neophyte entered Trump's orbit not knowing she would end up in politics. One of her immediate tasks is repairing the breach caused after Trump blamed "both sides" for deadly violence between white supremacists and counter-protesters at a Virginia rally.
Hicks is considered one of America's most powerful political players, given her status in Trump's inner circle and her desk near the Oval Office.
She is a former fashion model who worked for Trump's daughter Ivanka before he brought her into the Trump Organization.
Hicks joined Trump's presidential campaign in 2015 as spokeswoman.
