The Verbal Altercation

Taunting of religious man caught on video at rally

A demonstrator at a rally against the AG is filmed telling a religious bystander to 'take that rug off your head,' after being asked why the demonstrators decided to hold the rally on a Saturday, thereby making it difficult for observant Jews to take part.

During the now weekly demonstration near the home of Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit last Saturday, one of the participants was caught on video verbally taunting by a bearded, religious man wearing a kippa who was passing by.

In the video, the religious man can be seen asking why the demonstrators decided to hold the rallies on Saturday, thereby making it difficult for observant Jews to take part in them. The demonstrator then can be seen approaching the religious man in a threatening manner and says, among other things: "Take that rug off your head, cut the hair from your face."

The weekly demonstrations near Mandelblit's home in Petah Tikva are held in protest of Mandelblit's perceived foot-dragging in investigating the corruption allegations against Prime Minister Benjamin Netnaayahu and his wife Sarah.

Some 2,000 people participated in Saturday's protest at Goren Square, carrying signs reading "A king in need of slaves," and "The corrupt must go home."

At the end of the demonstration, the police informed its participants that they had broken every condition given to them by the High Court of Justice, among them that the protest include no more than 500 people.
