Islamic State evacuation convoy will cross to Deir al-Zor

BEIRUT – A stalled Islamic State evacuation convoy in eastern Syria will travel north to government-held Sukhna before crossing towards Deir ez-Zor region, which is held by the jihadists, a commander in the pro-Syrian government military alliance said on Thursday.
Hezbollah and the Syrian army arranged the evacuation as part of a ceasefire with Islamic State in an enclave on the Lebanon-Syria border after their offensive against the area last week.
But on Wednesday, the U.S.-led coalition blocked the convoy from moving into IS-held territory by striking the road ahead and some of their comrades travelling to meet them.
However, the commander said the location for the convoy to move into Islamic State territory had been changed and that part of the deal was already moving forward.
