65,000 recorded at Spanish loyalist rally

Barcelona's urban guard says that 65,000 people took part in Thursday's march to mark Spain's national day and call for the country's unity against attempts at secession.

The turnout was the highest since the police started keeping track of the figures three years ago, a spokesman from the municipal force said.

The spokesman declined to be identified by name in line with internal rules.

One officer suffered minor injuries and had to stop working when police intervened to separate two groups of protesters in a central square, the spokesman said, adding that the urban guard had not registered any other incidents.
