Court releases Lehava leader Benzi Gopstein for 5-day house arrest

None

The court has decided to release Lehava leader Benzi Gopstein, who will remain under house arrest until October 26 and will be forbidden from contacting the others involved in the case for 30 days.

"Suspicion in Gopstein's instance is circumstantial and flimsy."

Lehava is a radical right-wing anti-assimilation group propagating the separation of Jews and Arabs, especially as it pertains to personal relationships.

Gopstein was detained for questioning overnight Saturday along with a few other Lehava members on charges of intimidation.

The Jerusalem Police said Gopstein and 14 other suspects were arrested in a late night raid on the suspicion they threatened Arabs who were dating young Jewish women.
