The Spanish Coast Guard has rescued an Israeli and two others from a sunken yacht 400 kilometers southwest of Tenerife in the Canary Islands.
According to Spanish media, the Coast Guard in the Canary Islands was able to receive a distress call from the sinking yacht despite difficulties in communication due to the great distance. It sent out an order to nearby ships to get closer to the area and dispatched a helicopter to assist in the rescue.
The helicopter fueled on the island of El Hierro, the smallest and most remote island of the seven main Canary Islands off the African coast. From there, it continued to rescue the passengers of the yacht, which had previously been spotted by a military plane.
The three passengers—citizens of Israel, Ukraine and Russia—were unharmed.
