Minister of the Interior Aryeh Deri (Shas) attacked the decision of outgoing Supreme Court Chief Justice to allow Tel Aviv supermarkets to remain open on Shabbat, saying, "President Reuven Rivlin said this week the Supreme Court has 'orchestrated a coup', and that is exactly what this is. A real coup."
Chairman of the Knesset’s Finance Committee MK Moshe Gafni (UTJ) said, "The Supreme Court is simply detached from the people. Its judges habitually harm the holy Torah and Jewish tradition, and all of its ruling are based on harming the feelings and revenue of the observant public."
Gafni added his party will amend the law next week, promising to "fix what the court broke in order to preserve Israel's identity as a Jewish, democratic state."
