Rivlin professes hope Kotel agreement to be discussed again soon

President Rueven Rivlin commented on the crisis between the Israeli government and Diaspora Jewry surrounding the Kotel agreement on supplying an egalitarian prayer area in the Western Wall for all denominations and genders.

Rivlin commented on the issue during his speech at the 2017 Jewish Federations of North America's General Assembly.

"It causes such pain that a symbol of unity, the wall of tears and joy, has become a symbol of division and disagreement," Rivlin said.

"The development of the Kotel agreement was a sensitive process led by the Israeli government in order to try to bridge the gap. I hope that in the future we can return to the negotiation table and reach an understanding on this very important issue. It is our mutual responsibility and a common interest. At the same time, we must all respect Israel's democratic process," President Rivlin concluded.
