Gaza sources: 'PIJ under pressure to not fight Israel'

Palestinian sources within the Gaza Strip told Ynet Egypt was exerting tremendous pressures on the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization to not open a front against Israel.

"The organization listens to Egypt despite the fact its patron is Iran. They're proud of their relationship with Egypt and wish to preserve it, and so Egypt can exert pressure on PIJ to prevent military escalation. Egypt's influence on the strip is greater than Iran's," the sources claimed.

It was further stated pressure was also being exerted by Hamas, whose leadership is currently uninterested in another round of hostilities, mostly out of fear such an escalation will demolish the Hamas-Fatah reconciliation agreement.
