Litzman says his resignation was needed to stress objection against Shabbat desecration

Commenting on his resignation over Shabbat desecration, former Health Minister Yaakov Litzman says he had to take a stance to protect the sacred day.
"I am resigning with my head held high," he said. "I am an emissary of Torah sages. They say so, I do so, without arguing."
"I'm not going to even talk about the subject of deputy minister until we fix the rules," he stressed, referring to Netanyahu's plan to name him deputy health minister with the same ministerial powers he once had. "You'd think I resigned to be deputy minister. No, I resigned because I had to. If we do not (protect—ed) the Shabbat, I am unequivocally (resigning).
"No one believed me two weeks ago that I was going to resign. They thought it was only a threat. The subject of Shabbat is at our foundation. We do not agree to any desecrations of Shabbat. You do not have to fear Lapid. We need to worry about what we are undertaking, that it is based on Halakha and this is our foundation."
