Deri on Supermarket Law: 'My concern is weaker populations'

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri (Shas), who threatened to resign if the Supermarket Law did not pass in government, said in a Ynet studio interview, "If you're allowing a certain category like supermarkets (to remain open on Shabbat), tomorrow it will be shoe stores and then later everything and there'll be no Shabbat left."

"Socially speaking, it turns weaker populations—the simple laborers with nothing to eat—into slaves, because then people who refuse to work seven days a week will no longer be hired. And then the whole social aspect is ruined. My concern is those weaker populations," the minister said.
