Northern region resident convicted of attempting to join IS in Syria

The Nazareth District Court convicted 40-year-old Umm al-Ghanam resident Valentin Mazlevski of contact with a foreign agent and an attempt to leave for an enemy country to join the Islamic State.
Mazlevski, who made aliyah to Israel from Belarus and later converted to Islam, bought a one-way plane ticket to Turkey and intended to cross the border into Syria to join the ranks of the terrorist organization. He was arrested following a Shin Bet investigation.
