Meretz MK withdraws candidacy for party leader

Meretz MK Ilan Gilon announced that he is withdrawing his candidacy for head of his party in the upcoming primaries.
Gilon explained that a recent deterioration of his health impedes his ability to continue his campaign.
"I will continue to serve the public as chairman of the Meretz party in the Knesset, and to promote the values for which I was elected."
Gilon's announcement came only moments after Meretz Party Chair Zahava Gal-On announced she is stepping down from the race.
