France has joined the international condemnation of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, dubbing his speech on Tuesday "false."
"France shares the emotion aroused by President Abbas's words," a French foreign affairs ministry spokesperson said on Thursday. "We deplore them and consider them to be false, unfortunate and inopportune."
Israel has accused Abbas of anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial after the Palestinian leader suggested in his speech that historic persecution of European Jews had been caused by their conduct.
