IDF promotes first openly gay man to the rank of major general

The IDF announced that the position of the tenure of the Military Advocate General would be extended to five years and would include the possibility for the incumbent Military Advocate General to extend it for another year.
At the same time, the Military Advocate General, who receives the rank of brigadier general when taking office, will now be promoted to the rank of major general after three years in office.
In the meantime, the decision will apply to the current Military Advocate General, Brig. Gen. Sharon Afek, who will be the first openly gay man to rise to the rank of major general within the IDF.
