IDF: Soldier killed in tank accident due to route swerving

A debriefing was submitted Sunday to Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot about circumstances leading to the accident in which Sgt. Eliyahu Drori, 22 from Beit Shemesh was killed on April 14 during an operational duty as a Merkava Mark III tank moving towards one of the military posts on the Israel-Sinai border rolled three meters down the slope and injured three additional soldiers.

According to the debriefing, the accident was caused as a result of the tank swerving from its route.

Furthermore, it was concluded that the fire sparking inside the tank was caused due to an object entering the tank's turret rotation track.
