ISTANBUL - Preliminary results from Turkey's parliamentary election on Sunday put President Tayyip Erdogan's ruling AK Party at 55.2 percent of the vote, with 7.41 percent of the votes counted, CNN Turk and other local broadcasters said.
In the presidential contest also taking place on Sunday, Erdogan was at 58.9 percent, with 22.9 percent of the votes counted, the broadcasters said.
Sunday's presidential and parliamentary elections pose the biggest ballot box challenge to Erdogan and his Islamist-rooted AK Party since they swept to power more than a decade and a half ago.
