Gabbay and Livni: We pledge to turn the Declaration of Independence into Israel's constitution

Labor Party Chairman Avi Gabbay and the newly elected opposition leader Tzipi Livni announced on Saturday that they "pledge to turn the Declaration of Independence into Israel's constitution."
"The Declaration of Independence will be a basic law according to which Israel will be a nation-state for the Jewish people with equal rights for all its citizens, and preserve its identity as a Jewish and democratic state," said their official statement.
