Fire ignites from incendiary balloon
A new video of an incendiary balloon found Sunday at the Shaar HaNegev Regional Council shows how the seemingly innocent-looking playthings have caused fires that consumed thousands of dunams of farmland and forests.
The video shows how the delayed incendiary mechanism works, with the fire starting shortly after the balloon has landed.
The fire caused by this incendiary balloon was put out within minutes, causing no damage.
Incendiary balloon starts fire
While the rocket fire from the Gaza Strip has stopped since the last round of hostilities last week, the incendiary balloons and kites continue flying into Israel unabated.
A second balloon, in addition to the one seen in the video, landed in front of the Holocaust monument in Sderot on Sunday.
Five fires broke out in the Gaza border area on Saturday as a result of incendiary balloons and kites. Another incendiary balloon was found near a dining room at one of the communities in the Eshkol Regional Council.
In response, the IDF carried out one attack against incendiary balloon launchers in the northern Gaza Strip. The Palestinians said three attacks had been carried out in the northern Gaza Strip and in eastern Gaza City. One Palestinian was lightly wounded in the third strike.
Some 100 Israelis living near the Gaza border protested outside the Tel Aviv HaShalom train station against what they said was "the government's helplessness in dealing with the security situation in the Gaza border area and the western Negev. The protesters held up signs saying, among other things, "Israel is burning, we demand security."
