Seriously injured Maglan soldier regains consciousness

Cpl. A., who suffered a serious back injury after jumping off a Hummer jeep during training, wakes up two weeks after injury; he underwent a series of operations at Tel Hashomer hospital, and has a long rehabilitation ahead.

Cpl. A., the Maglan soldier who suffered a serious back injury after jumping off a Hummer jeep, regained consciousness for the first time on Monday, two weeks after being injured.

Cpl. A. was wounded during training when he was required—as part of the tradition in the elite unit—to jump off a Hummer jeep into thorny bushes.

He was rushed to the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon and then transferred to the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer, where he had undergone a series of operations.

On Monday, he woke up for the first time, started breathing on his own, and was speaking to his family. He has a long rehabilitation ahead of him.

In addition to Cpl. A., another soldier in the unit was moderately injured in a separate incident, during Krav Maga training. He was not evacuated to the hospital on time.

Brig. Gen. Yaron Finkelman, the commander of 98th Paratroopers Division, headed the investigation of the two incidents and decided to remove the two commanders of the two soldiers from their position.
