German banks report sharp fall in Iran exports amid new US sanctions

German exports to Iran have dwindled since the United States pulled out of the international nuclear deal with Tehran, data showed on Friday, despite Berlin's attempts to shield companies from renewed US sanctions against Tehran.

Data from the Association of German Banks (BdB) showed exports down 4 percent to 1.8 billion euros over the first eight months of the year, while the threat of long-arm US sanctions had largely frozen banks' export finance activities.
