"We emphasize that following police investigation, it appears that while the officer passed through the Jerusalem neighborhood, a number of ultra-Orthodox residents gathered around him, but no shots were fired," a police statement read.

The officer was transferred to The Military Police for questioning.

Dozens of ultra-Orthodox members demonstrated in Jerusalem Sunday night in protest of the arrest of three female IDF deserters. The demonstrators blocked the capital's Straus Street, Hanevi'im Street (Prophets Street) and Kikar HaShabba (Sabbath Square).

According to the protestors, three young women were held in military detention for refusing to enlist in the IDF. The news quickly spread like wildfire around the community, through voice messages recordings on mobile devices, and within minutes—demonstrators started to gather in the streets.

Some groups took advantage of the demonstration to remove municipal elections campaign posters showcasing women.
