Palestinian president set to announce elections to the Palestinian Authority

Palestinian official Ahmed Majdalani said Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will announce a date for elections to the Palestinian parliament in his speech to the UN General Assembly.

The parliament has not convened since 2007 when Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip.

Election dates had been set in the past a number of times but were cancelled.
