Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said "enemies" were trying to drive a wedge between Tehran and Baghdad in a tweet on Monday following deadly unrest in neighboring Iraq.
Earlier, another major Iranian cleric, Ayatollah Mohammad Emami-Kashani, denounced the protests shaking Iraq as an "American-Zionist" conspiracy aimed at disrupting a Shiite pilgrimage later in October.
