Ashkelon baby succumbs to injuries after suspected brutal abuse

An 11-month-old child from Ashkelon, who was admitted to the hospital with a fractured skull on Monday, had died, Soroka Medical Center announced on Wednesday.

The child's mother and the mother's boyfriend, a Palestinian from the West Bank staying in Israel illegally, have been arrested on suspicion of physically abusing the girl.

The man's remand was extended by five days.
