Hamas leader Haniyeh spoke with head of Islamic Jihad shortly before Be'er Sheva rocket fire

None

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Islamic Jihad leader Ziad Nahalka spoke on the phone shortly before rockets were fired at the southern city of Be’er Sheva in a pre-dawn attack on Saturday.

Sources said Haniyeh, who initiated the call, expressed his condolences over the assassination of Islamic Jihad military leader Baha Abu al-Ata (which sparked the latest cross-border flare-up).

Hamas emphasized the two factions agreed to strengthen the security coordination between them, despite Gaza’s rulers not taking part in the latest escalation fought largely between Israel and Islamic Jihad.
