Peretz's English: Room for improvement

New Labor party leader’s speech shows he still needs to brush up on his English skills

(VIDEO) Labor Party Chairman Amir Peretz delivered a speech on Sunday to donors at the Rabin Center, showing he may need to brush up on his English skills.

Labor’s new leader had trouble pronouncing several words as he fumbled his way through the speech, eventually deciding to simply skip troublesome sentences.

 

"Rabin's legacy will win only if we succeed in passing the message on to both nations," said Peretz in the course of the speech.

 

"We must encourage the nations of the Middle East to push their leaders in the direction of peace," he added.

 

"Yitzhak paid for this dream with his life," said Peretz.

 

Peretz also shared a number of details from his past, and received a warm reception. "I was born in Morocco, I grew up in Israel… in the course of my military service I was seriously injured and I spent two years in hospital. I came out on a wheelchair and I swore that the next war in which I would fight would be for peace," he said.
