Cash on wheels: Portable ATM for residents of north
ATM will be installed on mobile unit of Bank Leumi, that will travel between cities in north. Customers of all banks will be able to withdraw money from machine. ATM will also get to Nitzanim compound where hundreds of families from north are staying
One of the problems (of many) of the residents of the north is a lack of cash for urgent purchases at the convenience store next to the house, along with a fear of going to the far-off ATM. Bank Leumi has found a creative solution to the problem and has started running a portable ATM for the residents of the north, servicing customers of all banks. The portable ATM has been installed on a Leumi mobile unit that will travel between the northern cities, in addition to another mobile bank run by Leumi this week.
On Monday the mobile unit will travel through Haifa and the neighboring towns (changes may be made in accordance with instructions from the Home Front Command) and will service customers in these cities. On Tuesday the portable ATM is expected to stay for a few hours next to Nitzanim compound, where thousands of northern residents are staying.
Customers of all banks can withdraw cash using their regular bank card and personal code, similar to cash withdrawals at any other ATM. Withdrawal activity at the ATM is checked by a regular and automatic process against an automatic bank services terminal.
Itzhak Malach, Senior VP and Head of Operations at Leumi, notes that the portable ATM operates by way of secure cellular communication and is meant to provide a response to customer needs during calm periods during mass events. "The portable ATM from the outset was intended to provide a response at mass events such as rock shows, sports events during their calm periods, but, because of the new situation, we expedited their preparation and have placed them at the service of residents of the north."
