Report: Indonesian court sentences 4 Australians to death
The Australian government is investigating a newspaper report that four Australians serving prison terms in Indonesia for heroin trafficking had had their sentences upgraded to death, the father of an inmate and an
official statement said Wednesday.
The new sentences imposed by the Indonesian Supreme Court meant that six of nine Australians caught attempting to smuggle heroin out of Bali on April 17 last year now face firing squads, The Age newspaper reported, citing records it confirmed with court authorities in Jakarta. (Reuters)
