Nasrallah: Talks on captured troops progress

Hizbullah chief tells Iranian TV solution to problem of kidnapped soldiers ‘matter of time’, accuses America of ordering Zionist regime to invade Lebanon last summer to serve its ambitions in region

Talks to free two abducted Israeli soldiers were making progress and it was a “matter of time” before a solution would be found, Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah said during an interview with Iranian television station Alalam on Sunday.

“We have no problem on the matter of the captives. We have two captives and we are negotiating about them,” Nasrallah told Iran’s al-Alam television. “The matter is on its way towards a solution ... It is a matter of time,” he said, without elaborating.

The Hizbullah leader also alluded to Second Lebanon War, and accused the United States of being behind it.

“The United States ordered the Zionist regime to invade Lebanon last summer,” Nasrallah said.

“Israel went to war with Hizbullah to serve American ambitions in the Middle East,” he said, adding that the Winograd report “must have contained secret information on collaboration between the Zionist regime and some regional (Arab) states” during last summer’s war.

Nasrallah told Alalam that if published, the information would reveal that the Bush administration made the decision to launch the war against the “Lebanese resistance” and Hizbullah as part of its plan to rebuild the Middle East in accordance with Israeli and American interests.”

He said that Palestinian and Lebanese “resistance groups”, as well as Syria and Iran, have “foiled the US plots in the region".

“America failed to isolate Syria and had to withdraw its plans for a military showdown with Iran from its Middle East agenda,” Nasrallah said, adding that Washington was working to fuel tensions among various Lebanese groups.

According to him, Israel was not destroyed during the war, “but the conflict and the (Winograd) report exposed a severe leadership problem in the country.

“Winograd said the current government and the Israeli governments that ruled since the (IDF’s) withdrawal from Lebanon (2000) were failures and inexperienced; and we are talking about governments that were led by (Benjamin) Netanyahu, (Ehud) Barak and (Ariel) Sharon – who are Israel’s elite,” Nasrallah said.

The Hizbullah leader said it would “take time to for Israel to recover from the mental and strategic ramifications of the war”, adding that Israel may launch another war due to its “aggressive nature”.

In remarks aired on Sunday, Nasrallah also said talks to free two abducted Israeli soldiers were making progress and it was a “matter of time” before a solution would be found.

“We have no problem on the matter of the captives. We have two captives and we are negotiating about them,” Nasrallah told Iran’s al-Alam television. “The matter is on its way towards a solution ... It is a matter of time,” he said, without elaborating.
