Youth stabbed to death in Jerusalem brawl

Police dispatched to capital's Koresh Street after fight breaks out in area. Two young men injured; one of them dies of his wounds at hospital. Two suspects arrested

A young man was stabbed to death Thursday night during a brawl in central Jerusalem. Another youth, who was also stabbed in the same incident, was hospitalized in light to serious condition.

Two people were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the incident.

The violent incident took place at around 4:30 am, outside a nightclub on the capital's Koresh Street. An initial police investigation revealed that an argument had erupted inside the club between two young women, who were assisted by their friends.

At a certain point, the entire group went outside and a brawl broke out. According to suspicions, two men involved in the fight pulled out knives, stabbed two other people and fled towards the town of Ma'aleh Adumim.

One of the young men stabbed was critically injured and died shortly afterwards at the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in the city.

Shai Shapira, a Magen David Adom paramedic, was first to arrive at the scene of the incident. "At around 3 am we were dispatched to Koresh Street," he told Ynet. "We found two injured people on the pavement, one of them in critical condition, unconscious, his throat split and losing massive amounts of blood."

Shapira added that he had tried to stop the bleeding with his fingers, but that the man was proclaimed dead after arriving at the hospital.

"The other injured person was stabbed in the back and was evacuated to the Shaare Zedek Medical center," the paramedic added. "It wasn't an easy thing to see."

Dudi Shklar, a volunteer at the United Hatzalah organization who also arrived at the scene of the incident, said that "next to the wounded man was a group of his friends who went wild. At a certain stage they even began assaulting the police."

He added that some of those present said that the fight was over a young girl. "Unfortunately, we witness such outcomes quite often," he told Ynet."

Police officers searched the area following the violent incident, set up roadblocks and arrested two suspects. The Jerusalem Police appointed a special investigation team.

Thursday night's murder joins a series of violent incidents which took place across the country in the past 24 hours. On Thursday afternoon, a 15-year-old boy was killed and another teenager sustained moderate wounds when shots were fired at a school bus traveling near the Israeli Arab town of Taibeh.

In the northern village of Manda, a man was moderately injured after being stabbed in the chest Thursday evening. The police are searching for two suspects.

In another incident Thursday evening, a 45-year-old man was moderately injured by shots fired at his car in the city of Ramat Gan.
